What are Buckets?

Buckets provide a way to view items in your Kendis Program Board from Jira that are not linked to any Epic, these are often called "Unparented" items.

Earlier behavior in Kendis

  • Previously, Kendis only displayed stories that were direct children of Epics on your Program Board.

  • If a story was in your team sprint but not linked to an Epic, it would not appear in Kendis.

  • Similarly, if an Epic was not on the Program Board, its child stories were also excluded.

Buckets solve this by making all these unparented items visible.

Configuring Buckets

Buckets are an extension to the "Card Types" in Kendis. To configure the Buckets, you need to have "Super Admin" rights.

  • Go to Admin Settings

  • Navigate to "Additional Card Type" and select "Buckets"

Global Buckets

There are two default global buckets in Kendis:

  • (Global) Unparented Stories

  • (Global) Bugs

These are generic and do not have predefined issue types.
When you add them to your Program Board, you can map the issue types (e.g., Story, Bug) that should go into these buckets.

Jira-Specific Buckets

You can also create buckets tied directly to your Jira integration.
To create a Jira-specific bucket:

  1. Click "Add Bucket" in the top corner.

  2. Enter a name for the bucket.

  3. Select your Jira ALM account.

  4. Choose the issue type (e.g., Task, Bug).

  5. Click Save.

This bucket becomes available on all boards connected to that Jira ALM account.

Note: These buckets still need to be enabled on each board under Board Settings.

Enabling Buckets on your Board

To enable buckets:

  1. Go to Board Settings → Additional Settings.

  2. Check "Enable Buckets."

  3. Select which buckets you want to use:

    • Global Buckets (you’ll be prompted to map issue types)

    • ALM-Specific Buckets (automatically configured by your Super Admin)

  4. Click Save.

  5. Kendis will resync and pull all relevant sprint items not currently on your Program Board.

Viewing Buckets

  • Buckets appear in the team area on your Program Board.

  • Items inside buckets are included in your Team Load calculation for that sprint.

  • You’ll also see a summary card in the backlog list showing total bucket items by type.

Where else can you use Buckets?

Buckets are treated as a special "Card Type" in Kendis.
You can filter or group by this type in:

  • Features List

  • Timeline View

  • Analytics

  • Sprint Reports

  • Dashboards

This allows full visibility of unparented or special items across all your planning and reporting views.
