In Jira, it's possible to share the sprint across multiple boards. Organizations use this common sprint approach in Jira to start and close sprints for all the teams at the same time.

If a sprint is shared across multiple teams, then each team board must have a "unique" identifier to distinguish contents from one team board to another.

Enable Shared Sprint Setting

Follow these steps to enable shared sprint setting

  • Go to Board Settings

  • Click on "Edit Board Settings

  • Select the "Additional Fields" tab

  • Click on the checkbox for "Enable Shared Sprint"

  • Select the field that you use at Jira to separate Jira boards, e.g., component or other custom fields to uniquely identify each team. This value will be used at team mapping at Kendis to distinguish stories in the same sprint for different teams

Configure Teams with Shared Sprint at Kendis

Once the shared sprint is enabled, the next step is to configure teams at Kendis

  • Go to Board Settings

  • Select Teams tab

  • Go to Team Settings

  • Select your project, board, and other fields

  • Select the "Shared Sprint" value

  • Select sprints

Example Team Settings

  • Team 1 with the same sprints and different shared sprint field value

  • Team 2 with the same sprints and different shared sprint field value

Notes

  • When a story is created in a team at Kendis board, it will automatically set the sprint and shared sprint field values.

  • Referring to the above example, if a story is created in "Team Tiger" in sprint 1, it will have the following values in Jira
    - Sprint = CRM Sprint-1
    - Component= CRM

  • Referring to the above example, if a story is created in "Team Whale" in sprint 1, it will have the following values in Jira
    - Sprint = CRM Sprint-1
    - Component= Integration
