Kendis enables smooth synchronization of Risk items with Azure DevOps, helping teams centralize risk visibility across programs and boards. This guide explains how to set up the sync and manage risks efficiently using the Kendis Risk Register.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure:

  • You have Admin access in Kendis and the appropriate permissions in Azure DevOps (e.g., Project Collection Admin).

  • An Azure DevOps integration is already configured in Kendis.

  • Your ADO project includes a work item type to represent risks (e.g., “Issue”, “Risk”, or a custom type).

Step 1 – Configure Risk Mapping in Workspace Settings

  1. Navigate to Settings from the Kendis main menu.

  2. Open Risk Connections.

  3. Click Create New Connection

  4. Provide a name, select your ADO ALM account, and click Save.

  5. Under the Azure DevOps Projects tab, choose the ADO project to connect.

  6. In the Risk Mapping tab, map the fields between Azure DevOps and Kendis

7. Click Save.

Note: If two-way sync is enabled, changes made in Kendis will be pushed to Azure DevOps.

Step 2 – Set Up the Risk Register in Kendis

  1. Go to Risk Register from the left navigation panel.

  2. Click Create Risk Register.

  3. Provide the following:

    • Prefix

    • Register Name

    • Select a status field (e.g., “Open”)

  4. Select the previously created Risk Connection and click Save.

Step 3 – Add or Link Risks

You can populate the Risk Register in three ways:

  • Create a new risk in Kendis

    • Ensure the Area Path and Iteration Path are valid for the selected ADO project.

  • Link an existing risk using the ADO Item ID

  • Import via ADO Query

    • Provide the ADO Project Name and Saved Query Name to fetch matching risks.

Step 4 – Understand Risk Sync Behavior

Once mapping is configured:

  • Risks created in ADO (with the mapped item type) will automatically sync to Kendis.

  • Risks can be linked to stories, features, or boards within Kendis.

  • Fields like status, owner, and severity are synced according to one-way or two-way settings.

Step 5 – View and Manage Risks in Kendis

  1. Open Risk Register from the main menu.

  2. Select your Risk Register.

  3. Use filters to find and manage risks by:

    • Board, Workspace, Status

    • Risk Level, Responsible, Area Path, Iteration Path

    • Owner, Severity, Linked Items

  4. Click on any risk to:

    • View full details

    • Open the linked ADO work item

    • Edit fields (if two-way sync is enabled)

The Risk Register provides a centralized view across programs and boards, making it easier to track and act on risks during PI Planning and Inspect & Adapt sessions.
