Custom fields allow you to store additional information for Objectives and Key Results in Global OKRs. They must be created first, then assigned through layout configuration in Strategic Themes.

View custom fields inside Global OKRs.
In the previous guide, we created custom fields for Objectives and configured them for Team and PI Objectives. Strategic Themes use a separate layout configuration and require additional setup, which is why they are covered separately in this guide.
1. Create Custom Fields for Key Results
Since custom fields for Objectives are already created, you now need to create custom fields for Key Results.
Go to Settings.
Click Custom Fields.
Click Create New.
2. Define the Field
In the Basic Details tab:
Enter a clear name for the field.
Add a short explanation of what the field is used for.
Select the type of data the field should store. Choosing the right field type is important because it determines how users enter data and how consistently that data can be used later.
Suggested Field Types
Field Type | Description |
Text Field | Use for short text values. |
Single Select | Use when users should choose one value from a predefined list. This will be shown as "Drop down" list |
Multi Select | Use when users should be able to choose multiple values. |
Number Field | Use for numeric values. |
Add values if required (for Single Select / Multi Select).
Click Save.
3. Custom Field Associations
Open the Associations tab. This is where you choose which item types can use the field.
You will see the available components. Select KR to associate the field with Key Results.
Repeat the same steps to create the required fields for Key Results.
4. Add the Field to a Custom Field Layout
To make the field available in the KR details view, open:
Settings → Custom Fields Layout
If layouts are not enabled yet, enable them first.
Then:
Click Create New or open an existing layout.
Select the relevant item type, such as KR.
In the layout builder, locate the field under Custom Fields.
Click Add to place it in the layout.
Position the field where you want it to appear.
Click Save.
At this point, you have created a custom field and layout for both Objectives and KR. Now let’s move to the Strategic Theme screen to configure them.
5. Configure Objective and KR Layout
In the Edit Strategic Theme screen, you need to configure layouts for both Objectives and Key Results so the custom fields become visible.
Open your Strategic Theme and click the Edit Theme option.
Here, find the Objective Layout Configuration field.
Choose the layout that contains the custom fields created for Objectives.
Just below the Objective Layout Configuration, you will see the KR Layout Configuration dropdown.
Click Select KR Layout.
Choose the layout that contains the custom fields created for Key Results
Click Save
This will enable custom fields for Objectives and KRs inside the Strategic Theme.
6. Verify Custom Fields in Strategic Theme
Go to Global OKRs.
Open the Strategic Theme again.
Expand an Objective.
Open a Key Result.
You will now see the custom fields in the details panel according to the selected layout.
