To ensure your Program Board captures the specific business context your organization requires, Kendis allows you to extend the standard Objective using Custom Fields.

1. Open Custom Fields

Custom Fields are managed from Settings.

To create a new field:

  1. Open Settings from the left-hand menu.

  2. Go to Custom Fields.

  3. Click + Create Field.

This opens the Custom Field form, where you will define the field and its associations.

2. Define the Field

In the Basic Details tab, enter the following:

2.1 Custom Field Name

Enter a clear name for the field.

2.2. Description

Add a short explanation of what the field is used for.

This helps administrators and users understand the purpose of the field.

2.3 Field Type

Select the type of data the field should store. Choosing the right field type is important because it determines how users enter data and how consistently that data can be used later.

Supported Field Types

Field Type

Description

Text Field

Use for short text values.

Single Select

Use when users should choose one value from a predefined list. This will be shown as "Drop down" list

Multi Select

Use when users should be able to choose multiple values.

Number Field

Use for numeric values.

Date

Use for date-based input.

User

Use to select a Kendis user.

Link

Use to store a URL.

4. Configure Associations

After defining the field, open the Associations tab. This is where you choose which item types can use the field. In this case, select Objective to associate the field with Objectives.

5. Add the Field to a Custom Field Layout

To make the field available in the Objective or KR details view, open:

Settings β†’ Custom Fields Layout

If layouts are not enabled yet, enable them first.

Then:

  1. Click Create New or open an existing layout.

  2. Select the relevant item type, such as Objective or KR.

  3. In the layout builder, locate the field under Custom Fields.

  4. Click Add to place it in the layout.

  5. Position the field where you want it to appear.

  6. Click Save.

Only fields associated with the selected item type will be available in that layout.

6. Apply the Layout to the Board

After saving the layout, apply it to the relevant board.

  1. Open the board.

  2. Go to Board Settings.

  3. Open Edit Board Settings.

  4. In the relevant layout section, select the layout you created.

  5. Save the board settings.

This step is required for the field to appear in the board experience.

7. View the Field in Objective or KR Details

Once the layout has been applied, open an Objective or KR from the board.

The Custom Field will now appear in the item details view based on the layout configuration.

For example, if you created a Single Select field called Delivery Confidence, users will be able to choose the configured value directly in the Objective or KR details.
