In this article we will explain how to

  • Create Objectives

  • Objectives & Stretch Objectives

  • Link Objectives to Features and Stories

  • Team and Custom Objectives

  • Export Objectives

This GIF summarises all these steps

1 - Create Objectives

Kendis supports Team and Custom Objectives.
Team Objectives: By default all the teams are visible under the option "Add Team", to add a section for team objectives, simply click on "Add Team" link and then select the team.
PI-4 or custom objectives: To provide flexibility to create PI objectives or any other kind, click on "Add Custom" link and name the objectives group, e.g., in the above GIF, it's named as PI-4 Objectives.

2 - Objectives and Stretch Objectives

An objective has 3 fields
Objective Title: Definition of the individual objective
BV Plan: Business value set by the business for this objective
BV Actual: Once objective is materialized, normally at the end of the PI, business provide the value of how much actual business value this objective created.

2-1 Stretch Objectives

Stretch objectives are like normal objectives, however they have special status in the BV Actual calculations. Business Value for stretch objectives is not counted in the "plan", but if team achieves it, BV is included in the Achievement %, thus teams can have more than 100% BV achievement if stretch objectives are achieved as well. This article from SAFe® explains PI objectives and stretch objectives concept in detail.

3- Link Objective to the features

Kendis offers capabilities to link objectives to features that are present on your board. This allows the customers to have the ability to precisely see what features and stories are contributing to the objective, thereby viewing the real-time progress of each objective.
One or more features can be linked to an objective. It is also possible to link a user story to the objective as well. To view the objective and linked items, click on the objective title and expanded view shows all the linked items.

4 - Difference between Custom and Team Objective

Team Objective can only be made against one selected team. For creating a custom objective, you can name this objective anything that you like and create your objective, e.g., to create PI level objectives, use custom objective and rename as “PI# Objectives”

5 - Exporting Objectives

The objectives can be exported as an Excel or a CSV file. This can be done by clicking on the Export Icon on the right corner. A drop down will appear from where you can select to export the file as an Excel or a CSV file.
