Once your solution areas are in place, the same questions come up: who can change them, who can see them, and what the rows on the Solution Boards page mean. This article answers them.
The Solution Boards page
Open Solution Boards from the left navigation. The page lists every solution board you can reach, grouped into rows:
Section | What it holds |
Starred Boards | The boards you marked with the star. This list is personal. |
Solution areas | One row per solution area, for example Retail Platform, with its boards and the short names of their linked PI boards. |
Collections | One row per collection that has Solution Boards switched on, with the boards created directly in that collection. |
Legacy Solution Boards | Boards that belong to no solution area and no collection. Always the last row. |
The Solution Boards page with every row expanded: Starred Boards, the Retail Platform solution area with one board, and Legacy Solution Boards.
Expand All / Collapse All opens or closes every row at once.
Search Board… finds boards by title across all rows; Reset clears the search. While a search is active, only rows with matching boards are shown and Starred Boards is hidden.
The sort box switches between Created On and Updated On.
Show Archived switches to the list of archived boards; Show Un Archived brings you back. Search and sorting are not available in the archived list.
Solution areas and collection rows share one list. Drag a row to change the order.
A solution area row shows its contributing collections as chips, and a collection row has a Go to collection icon.
Who can create, edit and delete a solution area
Only super administrators see + Create Solution Area and the three-dot menu on a solution area row. Super administrators are managed under Settings › Super Administrators.
The menu of a solution area row: Settings and Delete.
Settings opens Edit Solution Area, where you change the title, description, colours, owner and contributing collections. See Create a Solution Area and a Solution Board for the fields.
Delete removes the solution area but keeps its boards (see below).
What the Owner does
The Owner is either Global or one collection.
When you pick a collection, Kendis also adds it to the contributing collections.
A solution area is listed on the Solution Boards list of its owner collection and of every contributing collection.
Global means the area belongs to no single collection. It does not open the area to everyone: who sees it is still decided by the contributing collections.
Who can see a solution area
Super administrators see every solution area and every collection row.
Everyone else sees a solution area when they are a member of its owner collection or of at least one contributing collection, either directly or through a group.
ⓘ Tip
If a colleague cannot find a solution area, check that they have a role in one of its contributing collections.
Rights on solution boards
What a user may do with the boards of a solution area comes from their role in the area's owner and contributing collections. The rights are set per role under Settings › Roles, in the group Solution Board Settings.
The Solution Board Settings group of a role with its four rights.
Right | Allows |
Create Board | Create a new solution board with + Create Board. |
Add/Remove Content | Add content to the board and remove it. Also needed for Resync Board and for the Content From ALM and Azure DevOps Projects tabs of the board settings. |
Manage Board | Open Edit Board Settings and change the board settings and permissions. |
Delete Board | Delete a board, and archive or unarchive it. |
ⓘ Good to know
When a user has roles in several collections of the same solution area, give those roles the same Solution Board rights. That keeps the result predictable.
Actions on a board row
Click the star in front of a board to add it to Starred Boards. The three-dot menu at the end of the row has three actions.
The menu of a board row: Delete, Archive and Move To.
Delete removes the board after you confirm.
Archive takes the board off the page. Find it again with Show Archived, where each board has Un Archive and Delete.
Move To moves the board to another collection or solution area. From a solution area you can move it to areas and collections that share a collection with the current area.
The buttons are shown to everyone. If your role lacks the right, Kendis tells you that you are not allowed to perform the action.
Deleting a solution area
Deleting a solution area does not delete its boards. Kendis removes the area and its associations, and the boards move to Legacy Solution Boards. From there you can put each board into another area with Move To.
A solution area cannot be archived; only single boards can.
Legacy Solution Boards
This row collects boards that have neither a solution area nor a collection: boards created before solution areas existed, and boards whose area was deleted. Legacy boards are visible to every user. Use Move To to give a legacy board a solution area, so that its visibility follows the area's collections.
