This guide provides a detailed walkthrough of the new PI Delivery Dashboard, including every metric, chart, and functional element to ensure a data-driven Inspect & Adapt ceremony.

PI Delivery Dashboard

This is your powerful dashboard to conduct the Inspect and Adapt ceremony at the end of every Program Increment. Designed to drive more improvement, the Inspect & Adapt module gives you a precise view of your delivery health, scope volatility, commitment integrity, and predictability.

Core Functionality & Data Access

The Home tab provides a highly visual PI Delivery View, summarizing commitment integrity, and execution capability across the Program Increment.

Drill-Down Capability: All numeric values on the dashboard are clickable. Clicking instantly opens a detailed modal view of the work items (e.g., Planned Features, Story Points Added).

Performance Metric Selection: The team performance overview uses a dropdown menu to select the primary metric. You can toggle the calculation of commitment achievement by Features, Stories, or Story Points.

Scope Baseline and Delivery Tracking

This part of the dashboard answers the core question: How well did we stick to our plan? It provides a quantitative comparison of the PI’s original commitment against the final delivered scope.

What We Started With

Starting at the top of the dashboard, these three dedicated boxes define the PI commitment. They quantify the initial scope committed at the start, showing total counts for Planned Features, Planned Stories, and Planned Story Points.

Scope Changes During PI

This crucial tabular chart tracks scope variation during the execution cycle. It is organised by Features, Stories, Story Points, and quantifies changed by tracking items Added, Removed, and the resulting Net change.

Final Total (After Scope Changes)

This set of three summary boxes illustrates the revised total scope achieved. It compares the initial commitment to the final resulting number.

Delivery Report

This is an essential dual-table visualisation for assessing delivery health. Against Original Plan measures what was delivered against the Original Plan. Against Final Scope tells what was delivered against the Final Scope after all additions and removals.

Team Performance and Final Analysis

This area shifts the focus from the total scope to team execution and learning. It also highlights where the next PI’s improvement efforts should be directed.

Team Performance Overview

Visualise the completion percentage for each team using this horizontal bar chart. It tracks Delivered vs. Planned commitment by individual team, visible for Original and Final Scope calculations.

Original Commitment View: The bar chart and table visualize the percentage completed against the initial Planned scope. This tracks Commitment Integrity, how well teams stuck to their initial promises.

Final Scope Change View: This view shows the percentage completed against the Final Scope assigned to the team. This tracks Execution Capability, the ability to deliver the actual workload, including any mid-PI additions.

Delivery Report by Team

This report details the breakdown of work items by team against four delivery states:

  • Planned: Done: Work that was committed and completed within the PI.

  • Planned: Open: Work that was committed but remains open.

  • Unplanned: Done: Work that was added mid-PI and successfully completed.

  • Unplanned: Open: Work that was added mid-PI and remains open (potential carryover).

Filtering: The chart can be extensively filtered and grouped by criteria such as Team, Card Type, Planned/Unplanned status, Status Category, or custom Azure DevOps Fields.

Carryover Analysis

It quantifies unplanned work quickly using two major summary cards. Unplanned Open (Carryover) highlights counts for items remaining Unplanned Open. Unplanned Done (Carryover) shows counts for items already Unplanned Done.

Executive Summary

It provides the high-level assessment of the entire PI planning at the bottom of the dashboard.

Commitment Integrity is the percentage of the original plan delivered. Execution Capability shows the percentage of the final scope delivered. Scope Volatility is the net scope change percentage.

Configuration Note

This analysis includes comprehensive data, as enabling (Global) Unparented Stories and Bugs in the I&A Settings ensures that the analysis encompasses all items residing in the buckets area of the board.
