Drafting PI objectives manually can feel like a major manual grind in your planning process. With the Charlie AI integration, you can bypass the manual drafting struggle and jump straight into smart agility. This integration serves as your strategic partner that instantly converts your backlog into value-driven goals so you can stay focused and aligned.
Step 1: System Activation & Access
Before you can generate objectives, you need to ensure the system is ready to process your request.
Open your Settings menu on the left sidebar and select AI Tokens Configuration.
Toggle the Enable AI Capabilities switch to "On".
Read the AI Terms of Use (Version 1.0), check the agreement box, and click Accept and Enable AI.
Once enabled, navigate to your Objectives tab to find the purple Charlie AI icon ready for action.
Step 2: Objective Scope & Context Configuration
The Charlie AI integration is highly flexible. It allows you to choose the level of detail that best fits your team’s needs. You can use the Include objective descriptions toggle to let Charlie generate comprehensive details on “Value,” “Outcome,” and “Approach”.
If you uncheck objective descriptions, you can generate up to 25 objectives simultaneously for quick high-level clarity.
With descriptions enabled, Charlie can handle up to 10 detailed objectives in a single attempt.
Use the Additional Guidance field to steer the results (e.g., "Focus on customer-facing features" or "Emphasize security and performance").
Under Advanced Settings, you can provide a Company Name, Team Description, or a specific PI Description to ensure the AI output aligns with your organisational language.
Step 3: Backlog Alignment & Data Linking
Charlie builds every objective upon a foundation of existing work items. Its integration transforms your actual backlog into strategic goals to ensure every objective is grounded in real-world data.
Click Next. Select Features to access your current backlog.
Choose the specific Features or Stories that represent your priorities for the upcoming increment.
You can also use the search bar or the Group By Team filter to find and link the most relevant items in seconds.
Step 4: Strategic Review & Board Placement
Review your AI-generated drafts as Charlie translates your raw backlog items into high-impact objectives ready for board placement.
Evaluate the generated drafts and note the Tokens used for the generation displayed at the top.
You can click “Create Objectives, I’m Happy” to save the objectives to your board and the Charlie pop-up will close automatically.
The other way is to select “Create and Start Over” if you want to save the current objectives but need to generate another set for a different focus area right away.
If you select “Create and Start Over,” a notification will confirm your objective was created, allowing you to keep refining without losing your flow.
